"Fully 53 per cent of its residents are foreign-born and 56 per cent are visible minorities, according to new data from the 2001 census released yesterday." So what? "That's putting the area on a course where minorities will soon dominate... " What does this mean? What exactly constitutes a minority and majority?

Canada is a microcosm of the world — a land made up of human beings whose origins lie here and from all around this globe.

The Canadian identity is synonymous with one's logical and factual identity of humanity. Labels like "majority," "minority" and "visible minority" aim at pigeonholing segments of human society.
